World's Extinct animals Part 2

1. Quagga:



                              Quagga is one of the sub species of the Zebra. Quagga was found in the South Africa. Quagga became extinct in the late 19th Centaury. One the main reason for the extinction of Quagga is hunting. It had a unique stripped pattern which made it different from the other subspecies.

                         The height of Quagga was around 5-6 feet. The estimated weight of Quagga ranged from 600 to 700 Pounds. Now Quagga is remembered as the first species which had been reached extinction because of the human activities to till date.

2. Dodo :


                   Dodo is an extinct flightless bird. Dodo is an type of species that is only found in an Island named Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. Dodo is an endemic species. The dodo was 3 feet height and weighted around 25 pounds. The dodo had a distinctive appearance of small, Rounded wings with a large hooked beak.


                The dodo was discovered by the Europeans in the 16th Centaury. The dodo was quickly hunted by the sailors for food. Naturally the dodo had no threat for life so it never evolved in that way. When humans entered the Island dodo was hunted the predators and it was unable to defend itself against new threats.

3. Woolly Mammoth :



                                                The woolly Mammoth was species of elephant that has lived in the Pleistocene era. The Woolly mammoth. This woolly mammoth lasted over 2.6 million years ago for about 11700 years. They can live in extremely cold regions and arid environment. 

                                              Woolly mammoth were native to Northen America, Asia and Europe. They were primarily herbivorous animals mostly ate grass and sedges. The height ranged from 9 feet to 12 feet. They male woolly mammoth weight from 12 ton and the female woolly mammoth weight from 9 ton. 

4. Golden Toad :



                                          Golden toad is a extinct species of the true toad. The golden toad was native to the cloud forest of Coasta Rica. The Golden Toad was the first species to be recognized as being impacted by the climate change. It was small with a brightly orange colored.

                                      This Golden toad suddenly disappeared after the late 1980's. It was a highly adaptable species. This was vulnerable to the environmental changes. The Golden Toad disappearing time a wide change in the biodiversity has happened and it is considered as the amphibian decline crisis. The length of the Golden toad was about 1-1.5 Inches.

5. Caribbean Monk Seal :



                                                         Caribbean monk seal is also known as west Indian Seal or Wolf Seal. It was native to the Caribbean sea and The Gulf of Mexico. It was medium sized but the dark skin, the streamlined body and the large rounded head made it as a special one. 

                                                        Since the Caribbean seal hadn't been spotted in along time and no record of it's existence has been seen it is added to the extinct animals. The main reason is seen as for it's extinct is the hunting of it for the oil. Despite many initiatives by the Government it became extinct. It was over 6feet long and weighted over 300 to 400 pounds.
